About Alexandra Heep:

Alexandra Heep is a longtime writer, chronic over-thinker, and recovering content mill survivor. Her work has appeared in literary journals, anthologies, and online platforms where words are still respected. She writes children’s books, health reflections, and the occasional blog post laced with humor and hard-won honesty. After years of illness, detours, and navigating the noise of modern wellness, she returned to writing with the firm belief that stories—like people—don’t have to be perfect to matter. She publishes under multiple pen names and drinks more goat milk than you’d expect.

NaPoWriMo 2025 Day 22: A Morning in the Realm of Me

A Morning in the Realm of Me

The sun arose, just as it should,
And found me poised upon the wood—
That noble sill where light beams pour,
A throne of warmth, a golden floor.

I watched the world in silent grace,
A twitch of tail, a whiskered face.
Birds dared to flit, dogs dared to bark,
But I reigned calm from my sunlit ark.

Then came the time—I made my way
To where my servant human lay.
A meow, then two, then three, then ten,
I voiced my will again, again.

She stirred. At last! My cause was heard—
Up on the bed, without a word.
She offered tribute, soft and slow:
A chin rub here, a gentle glow.

My purrs arose like sacred chimes,
In rhythms deep, in velvet times.
But still, a need—a cozy lair!
I nudged and nudged. She was aware.

She parted blankets, fluffed just right,
I burrowed in, escaped the light.
My paws relaxed, my eyes grew dim...
The world grew quiet, soft, and slim.

She left her bed—my bed, now true—
As any loyal maid would do.
And hours passed in quilted bliss,
A perfect start, a life like this.
