About Alexandra Heep:

Alexandra Heep is a longtime writer, chronic over-thinker, and recovering content mill survivor. Her work has appeared in literary journals, anthologies, and online platforms where words are still respected. She writes children’s books, health reflections, and the occasional blog post laced with humor and hard-won honesty. After years of illness, detours, and navigating the noise of modern wellness, she returned to writing with the firm belief that stories—like people—don’t have to be perfect to matter. She publishes under multiple pen names and drinks more goat milk than you’d expect.

Infernal Revenue

He comes for you with a vengeance
he licks his lips in anticipation
ready to bleed you dry
with his weapon of choice held up high
and chains to enslave til your dying day
the rich pay him to look the other way
with coin other than money
is it worth the price they pay?
He preys on the innocent
the hard-working and the infirm
honesty reaps no rewards
when the taxman cometh.

I had no idea what I was going to write for today ... until I did my taxes.

Ugh...that most dreaded of all days for us self employed ones anyway. Others seem to like it fine when they have a refund coming, but oddly they don't seem to realize that means the government just confiscated more than they should have from them all year long and that the people are just getting their own money back...which they might have needed all year long. You can't fix stupid.
