B is for Beatles

Say what? That's as mainstream and popular as it gets, overplayed and everybody knows everything about the Beatles, right? Well, I am not going to attempt to say something that's been said ad nauseum, but I chose to include the Beatles for two reasons:

As with every band they have songs most people have never heard of that are much better than the stuff from the radio. Back in the day, they called them "deep cuts," - yes, I am dating myself. If you have never liked the Beatles because of the "commercialism" or "hype," delve a little bit deeper and you may become hooked.

Speaking of dating: The second reason I am including the Beatles is because they are my boyfriend's favorite band, so doing a post on them was a no-brainer.

However, I had no idea what song/songs to include, so I did a little impromptu poll on Facebook. It was amazing how many responses I got, even though it was after midnight. Wait, that's another song from a different artist...

Anyway, I decided to post four videos, it was very hard to even just narrow it down to these. They should all load fast (I have a slow computer and like my readers, no time to waste) and include lyrics. What is your favorite?

1. Strawberry Fields Forever (for Tom)

2. Norwegian Wood (for all the poets, thank you Janet)

3. Something (thanks, J.)

4. While my Guitar Gently Weeps (my favorite along with "Let it Be" - it never fails to give me goosebumps - and it got the most mentions)

I LOVE the Beatles - beautiful music and their lyrics are haunting. My favourite Beatles song is Blackbird.

Total Beatles fan here! I like their early stuff, though, like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You." Thanks for the memories!!!

Wow, Strawberry Fields was the only one I knew. Must get a better Beatles education! Is your bf retro?

Stopping by for the A to Z challenge. Have fun!

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for stopping by. We are both hippies, I guess that's retro!

I have been learning to better appreciate the Beatles in my "old age." Thanks for the reminder to keep on digging through those albums!

Favorite song??? Impossible, but I will mention three great (little-known, I'll bet) ones I haven't heard anyone mention yet, I'm only sleeping and For no one from Revolver album, and I will from the white album.

In 100 years, the Beatles will still have fans! Probably the ultimate concert memory of my life was when, several years ago, my Tom and I went to see Paul McCartney. The huge indoor arena was packed with men, women and even kids of all ages. The air was electric with anticipation. Although well over 60, we felt like we were 20 years old again when McCartney played his mega hits. It was like watching the band on Ed Sullivan for the first time during their American invasion. Our emotional connection was, indeed, only "yesterday." He ia, without a doubt, a musical genius!
