A to Z Challenge 2020: F is for Falkland Islands

Also known as Malvinas Islands, the Falkland Islands are governed by the United Kingdom. However, they are located thousands of miles away, in the Atlantic Ocean near South America. If you look at a map, they are east of southern Argentina, the country that claims them. They do use their own stamps and currency.

It's a windy and cool place, with hardly any climate fluctuations. Temperatures usually range between 37 F and 42 F. In Celsius, that is 3 to 5 degrees. It's a haven for millions of penguins. Sheep farming is the major industry because they export wool to the UK. In 2019, a whopping 3,377 people lived there!

Fun fact: The sheep-to-people ratio is about 160 sheep per person.

I ordered this postcard online from a mailing site in the Falkland Islands. However, I can't remember the name of the site. I do remember that it had a selection of postcards and stamps. The hardest part was to figure out the postage, so I spent a little extra on stamps.

When I checked out, I wrote a message into the comments to please affix the stamps and to send the postcard to me stamped and written instead of blank in an envelope with the stamps. The cost for the stamps and card was around $5.50.

It actually did work. Not only did I receive the postcard stamped and written to me, I also received a separate envelope with a purchase receipt. The envelope also had pretty stamps on it, so that was a bonus.

Very interesting! Stamps are so interesting. We discovered an old stamp book when going through my grandpa's things after his passing. They weren't worth anything monetarily but they were priceless to my son and so so interesting! Happy Tuesday to you!

I like learning about the places but also the logistics of collecting postcards.
