Togo, short for the Togolese Republic, is located in West Africa. It is not to be confused with Tonga (situated in the South Pacific Ocean). It is a narrow, long country wedged in between Ghana and Benin.
While its official language is French, people generally speak ethnic languages, including numerous African tongues. People from approximately 30 ethnic groups live in Togo. Almost one-quarter of the residents have Nigerian roots.
Togo has a tropical climate. Winter is the dry season. The rainy season usually lasts from May to September.
Fun fact: People in Togo wear sandals made from recycled tires.
This postcard was obtained in a trade. The person traveled to Togo, she didn't live there.
I had an uncle who loved dogs and Togo. He loved the place so much that when he came across a dog by name Togo, he took him in and he really loved him a lot. I mean no disrespect, but one reason why I will never forget the name of this place is because of the dog we had named Togo.
