Located in northeast Africa and bordering Israel, Egypt is the driest country in the world. It is also one of the oldest, ranked just behind San Marino. Egyptian dynasties formed over 8,000 years ago. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the largest overall and remains the only surviving ancient wonder of the world.
Fun fact: The 365-day calendar was invented in Egypt.
I thought it would be extremely difficult to get a postcard from Egypt because the country does not process mail to the United States. As it is, I found someone willing to send this postcard to a friend of mine in Canada who sent it to me.
My Egyptian contact even went through the trouble to take the postcard to the post office to get the stamps on it cancelled. He then placed the fully addressed, stamped postcard in an envelope addressed and stamped to my friend in Canada. She then placed that envelope in an envelope to me.
Luckily, it did not get lost on its way, and I highly appreciate the extra effort and postage it cost. What did it cost me? It was relatively inexpensive. All I had to do was trade 60 international, cancelled stamps. Strangely enough, you can mail things to Egypt from USA directly. My Canadian friend didn't require any payment.
As you can see, the stamps are fantastic.
Egypt. I had a trip planned to visit Egypt once, but never made it. Maybe one day I'll get there. Those stamps are cool!

ReplyDeleteEgypt has been my dream place, and am still in process. This year we planned to go to Isreal, Egypt and Syria and we are glad we cancelled our plan after the COVID 19 outbreak
