Blogging From A to Z 2018: A is for Antarctica

(My theme for April's A to Z blogging challenge is postcards. If you want, read my intro post).

When I started with this whole postcard collecting thing, I never thought I would be able to receive one from Antarctica. It was actually easier than I thought. In October of 2017, I signed up to be on a list to get a card. There are several ways to get on one, just use ye olde Google to find out how. In my case, I found a sign-up link in a Facebook postcard group.

This particular postcard was mailed from the South Pole, as you can see, by a scientist who works there. There is a limit on how many people can sign up to receive a postcard from her (I think 500), so I am happy I was one of the recipients. I received the postcard on Christmas Eve 2017. Judging by the cancellation, it took 20 days to get to me.

  1. That is so cool! I can't wait to see what other postcards you have gotten.

When I go places, I buy postcards, laminate them, and put them up on the wall in our home. It's a great memory of where we've been. I could see doing this with postcards you receive also!

  2. A postcard from Antarctica is so cool. And you were one of the lucky ones to get it. Great! Even in the age of internet, tangible stuff like postcards are precious, and retains their intrinsic value.
(I am too in the A2Z Challenge. Maybe you would like to see my entry.)
